Aralco recognizes sustainability as a strategic key to accomplish its mission. Focusing actions in environmental and social areas, to enable the preservation, conservation and restoration of natural resources, as well as the development and well being of the community.
The design and implementation of programs that emphasize product quality, mitigation and / or minimize impacts to the environment are constantly being developed, always with the focus of continuous improvement.

ENVIRONMENT.
Among the actions taken by the company in order to ensure a balance between productive activities and the environment, it is worth noting:WATER
The devices are efficient in the use of energy and economic use of water. Seeking to minimize the use of natural resources, several processes that use water are primarily operated in closed circuit. So water is recycled, reused and the capture takes place to replenish losses. In the industrial process set annual targets for reducing water consumption per ton of cane processed. By 2015, its units will be consuming less than 0.9 m³ / ton of cane processed.
The process uses drip irrigation with vinasse, which reduces the consumption of chemical fertilizers and inhibits the use of water for irrigation.
The environmental management system develops a program for monitoring the quality of surface water and groundwater in areas that receive the influence of the productive activities of their units.
AIR
contribute to improving air quality, several actions were triggered, with an emphasis on renewal of membership to the Agro-Environmental Protocol, where the gradual elimination of burning is a major policy, and the adequacy of pollution control, consisting of washers gases, which ensure a significant reduction in emission of pollutants by boilers.

FERTILIZERS
The environmental management system aims to reduce waste generation in their production processes. The waste generated in the process of transformation of sugarcane into ethanol and sugar, such as filter cake and ash from the boilers, are reused in the fertilization of planted areas, thus reducing the consumption of chemical fertilizers and minimizing environmental impacts.
STILLAGE
The stillage residue is rich in potassium, which is generated in the distillation process of ethanol production. Its application in the fields of sugar cane following actions strictly controlled and used irrigation equipment reducing the need for chemical fertilizers.
PESTICIDE
Aralco is with the utmost care packages of pesticides and so does the temporary storage in an appropriate location and then send it to Central of recycling.Aiming to Reduce the use of pesticides against pests and preserve the environment, uses biological control.
Agro-Environmental Protocol - GREEN ETHANOL.
The protocol is an agreement between the Department of the Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture and Supply and Industry Union Cane sugar - UNICA ( in portuguese) establishing an earlier deadline to stop the burning of sugar cane .
With accession to the Protocol in October 2007, units anticipated the legal deadlines for the end of the sugarcane harvest burning in mechanized areas for 2014, and 2017 in non-mechanized. To fulfill the agreement was drawn up an action plan with complementary programs to protect the riparian areas, control soil erosion control and water reuse, proper disposal of pesticide packaging and solid waste, as well as monitoring and control of air emissions . Currently about 70% of the sugarcane crop is mechanized.
With the formalization of the agreement, the companies have received the "Agro-Environmental Compliance Certificate" which is renewed annually if the targets set in the action plan are met.

Recovery center for wild animals .
The purpose of RCWA is to welcome, screen and treat wild animals rescued or seized by the inspectors. This kind of managenment imply in keeping records for each animal and to check their natural habitat and host it in a suitable place for treatment. Medical care, adequate nutrition are two processesthat animals are submitted. Animals remain under quarantine, allowing studies to the genetic bank of the Veterinary School. The creation of this bank is an unprecedented project in São Paulo state. The center is located in an area of the veterinary college (unesp), locates in district Dona Amelia, Araçatuba - São Paulo.

REFORESTATION AND PRESERVATION OF RIPARIAN FOREST.
Believing that productive activity should be in equilibrium with the environment, Aralco invests in activities and actions for the preservation, protection, conservation and restoration of native vegetation. The Department of Environment administers the planting of trees in permanent preservation areas around the springs and surface water resources. To do so, maintains a nursery in General Salgado, with production of about 100 000 seedlings of native trees and fruit per year. The seedlings are formed from seed collected in native forest fragments. Aralco makes donation to municipalities, agencies, suppliers and other surrounding landowners, and also provides technical assistance.
In addition to the permanent preservation areas, the Department of Environment is responsible for protecting native forest remnants in our own areas, vital to the conservation of regional flora and fauna.
OTHER ACTIONS
Besides the actions mentioned above, modern techniques such as varietal management, precision agriculture resources that minimize the use of inputs and crop rotation using legumes, complement the production process based in the sustainability.
Aralco has plans for environmental emergencies, ensuring the emergency response in the plant and also the agricultural areas, in occurrence of fire.
